Overview

A Breather Valve, also known as a Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve (PVRV), is a critical safety device installed on low-pressure storage tanks to protect them against excessive internal pressure and vacuum conditions.

PRECON® Breather Valves automatically open at predetermined pressure or vacuum settings during tank filling, emptying and thermal changes, allowing the tank to breathe safely while remaining closed under normal operating conditions. This helps protect the tank from structural damage, minimizes unnecessary vapour losses and reduces the release of potentially hazardous vapours into the atmosphere.

Designed for reliable operation in demanding industrial environments, PRECON® Breather Valves combine tank protection, product conservation and operational safety in a single engineered solution.

Applications

  • Crude and refined product storage tanks
  • Petrochemical intermediate storage
  • Tank farms and marketing terminals
Available Types

Choose the Right Configuration

PRECON® conservation venting solutions are available in different configurations depending upon the operating and process requirements of the storage tank.

01

Pressure Vacuum Relief Valve

Provides both pressure and vacuum protection in a single unit. The valve automatically relieves excess internal pressure during out-breathing and allows controlled air or vapour entry during vacuum conditions, helping protect the storage tank from excessive pressure or vacuum while reducing unnecessary product vapour losses.

02

Vacuum Relief Valve

Designed specifically to protect storage tanks against excessive internal vacuum. Vacuum conditions may develop during product withdrawal, rapid cooling or condensation of tank vapours. The valve opens at a predetermined vacuum setting to allow controlled in-breathing and helps protect the tank from structural damage.

Pressure Relief Valve

Designed for applications requiring protection against excessive positive pressure inside the storage tank. When the internal tank pressure reaches the predetermined set point, the valve opens to safely relieve vapours and closes again when normal operating conditions are restored.

Pipe Away Type

The Pipe Away configuration is designed for installations where discharged vapours are not intended to be released directly into the surrounding atmosphere. The outlet can be connected to a suitable vent header, vapour recovery system or disposal system, allowing relieved vapours to be routed to a designated location depending upon plant and process requirements.
